Rice Paper Apple Pie (Gluten-Free, Air Fryer Friendly)

Servings: 1 Total Time: 25 mins Difficulty: Beginner

Craving apple pie but don’t want to bake a whole one? This single-serving rice paper apple pie is a quick and cozy dessert that comes together in minutes. It requires no oven or rolling pin, and best of all, it’s naturally gluten-free. With tender cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in crispy golden rice paper, it’s like an apple pie roll that’s perfect for a solo treat or an elegant dinner-party bite.

✨ Tips & Add-Ons

  • Want more crunch? Sprinkle the outside with a bit of sugar before air frying.
  • Dairy-free? Use vegan butter and plant milk.
  • Serve with: A scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra indulgent twist.

🌾 Naturally Gluten-Free

This recipe skips traditional flour and pie dough entirely, making it a perfect gluten-free dessert option. Rice paper turns beautifully crisp in the air fryer, offering that satisfying crunch without the need for baking or dough work. That being said, the texture is definitely tougher and chewier than a traditional puff pastry, so keep in mind you won’t get that buttery, flaky crust from regular apple pies.

🥄 Why You’ll Love It

It’s quick, cozy, and customizable. Whether you’re craving something sweet after dinner or looking for a lighter alternative to traditional pie, this rice paper apple pie has all the warm fall flavors, but in a fraction of the time.

Instructions

  1. Cook the apple filling

In a small pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar diced apple, and cinnamon. Sauté for 3–5 minutes, until the apples soften and become slightly syrupy. If the mixture is watery, stir in cornstarch right before turning off the heat. Let cool slightly.

  1. Make the egg wash

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. This will be used to soften the rice paper and help it crisp up.

  1. Dip the rice paper

Take both sheets of rice paper and dip them together in the egg wash. Stacking two sheets will make it strong enough to hold the filling without breaking.

  1. Assemble the pie

Place the softened rice paper on a clean surface. Spoon the cooled apple mixture into the center. Fold in the sides and roll it up like a burrito to seal everything inside.

  1. Air fry

Place the roll in the air fryer and cook at 170°C (340°F) for 8–10 minutes, flipping once, until golden and crispy.

  1. Serve warm

Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with caramel, or enjoy as is!
